Monday 10 October 2016 We had a fun evening last night with The Back Yard Boys‘ return to Griffin Park Jazz Club. Unfortunately Colin Kingwell was unable to make it due to health reasons but this month’s band were made up of familiar faces from regulars at the club.
Cornet – Tony Karavis
Trombone – Bob Dwyer
Clarinet – John Lawes
Double Bass – Pete Brooks
Drums – Pete Littleproud
Banjo – Tim Wake
Favourites were Algiers Strut composed by Kid Thomas Valentine from Algiers (French Quarter of New Orleans). Several members of the band and audience had seen him tour in the UK in his old age. Dusty Rag was composed by May Algeheida at the turn of the century, it was her only composition before the duties of married life took over. Also a great rendition of Snag It composed by King Oliver.
Come along to the next event on Monday 14 November for Bob Dwyer’s Bix and Pieces.
