Monday 10 April 2017 Another wonderful evening of traditional 1920s/30s jazz inspired tunes from Frog Island Jazz Band. Favourites included Snake Rag, a New Orleans Wanderers number Perdido Street Blues, a King Oliver arrangement of Riverside Blues requested by Fluff, Buddy’s Habit and ending with the wonderfully uplifting Froggie More Rag. We hope to see them back at the club again soon.

It is with great sadness that we heard that Dave Evans passed away last week. A Brentford resident, regular musician with One More Time and man of few words he was simply amazing on the drums. When asked, he once told me he enjoyed listening to French Classical music: Debussy, Ravell and Eric Satie. Some beautiful heartfelt music. Heather (Fluff) has fond memories of Dave drumming sticks on railings on his way home from Strand-on-the-Green school when he was a child, and he will very much be missed at the club.
Monday 9 January 2017The Alley Cats Jazz Band helped us dance away the January blues last night with a set of uplifting tunes. Monday 14 March 2016 Max Emmons and his band One More Time gave us all a foot-stomping evening of music last night. These great musicians have such a large repertoire, we were treated to a pick and mix of New Orleans jazz and blues including Sugar Blues, a King Oliver number; Freight Train Blues recorded by Trixie Smith; Gypsy Love Song, sung by Mario Lanza in the film The Fortune Teller and the wonderful No Moon at All. Monday 10 November 2014 Some fun (if not slightly blurry) photos of Alley Cats Jazz Band at Griffin Park Jazz Club on Monday this week. The band was first formed in 1970 and has been in its current form for about 15 years. Dave Allison leads the band on clarinet and reeds with Keithy Brown on drums, Geoff Perrin on banjo and guitar, Les Dyos on trombone and Mike Godwin on bass. Continue reading →
