IMG_0086.JPGMonday 15 August 2017 A smartly redecorated Hive bar provided the setting for Excel Jazzmen‘s return to the club with a lively session including St Phillips Street Breakdown, a George Lewis composition played by Ken Colyer in 1953. Other favourites included The Dipper Mouth Blues, King Oliver’s Creole Jazz band in 1923, and also a hit for Louis Armstrong in 1943, and I’ll Never Say Never Again, a Nat King Cole tune. Monday 12 June 2017 West London Rhythm Kings featuring Chas McDevitt gave us another entertaining evening of live music at Griffin Park Jazz Club last night. Favourites included Girl of my Dreams (Gene Austin 1928) with Geoff Cole on vocals; Standing Down in New York Town One Day (Woody Guthrie, 1961) with Chas on vocals; Sweethearts on Parade (Louis Armstrong, 1930) with John Lawes on vocals. Monday 14 November 2016 Bob Dwyer’s Bix & Pieces were back at the club for another evening of lively music, with the Super Moon shining somewhere beyond the clouds. Favourites were Is it true what they say about Dixie (a Dean Martin song), You’re driving me crazy (a Billie Holiday song) with Hugh on vocals and Bob singing Why don’t you go down to New Orleans. Monday 10 November 2014 Some fun (if not slightly blurry) photos of Alley Cats Jazz Band at Griffin Park Jazz Club on Monday this week. The band was first formed in 1970 and has been in its current form for about 15 years. Dave Allison leads the band on clarinet and reeds with Keithy Brown on drums, Geoff Perrin on banjo and guitar, Les Dyos on trombone and Mike Godwin on bass. Continue reading
